DAILY WORKSHOP SCHEDULE, 2010

WORKSHOPS BEGIN ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM 2:00 - 5:00 PM.   We will meet at the workshop studio.  At that time Albert will explain the schedule for the week and give out painting location maps, followed by a demonstration and discussion about portability and tips for working on location with both pastels and oils, followed by a slide presentation of Albert’s paintings

We will then have a get-together supper at a local restaurant (individual checks).

THE PAINTING PART OF THE WORKSHOP BEGINS

MONDAY MORNING AT 9:30 AM THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON

During spring, summer and autumn months, early morning and late afternoon light are considered the best light for painting.  The schedule below gives you ample opportunity to paint both.

Demonstrations will be in pastel and oils.

Every day during the workshop, Mr. Handell will give a demonstration. Every afternoon, he will give individual help to each artist while painting at one of several special locations. At the end of the day there will be a daily critique.

MONDAY

9:30AM - Noon:  The studio opens for your convenience at 9:00 AM.  The workshop begins promptly at 9:30 AM.  Introduction by Albert: How to organize your pastel palette, followed by an introduction to Albert's unique color theory, explained and demonstrated with both pastels and oils. This color theory works for both pastels and oils and all other painting mediums, and since it includes and emphasizes lost and found edges, it also relates to composing outdoors.  Lost and found edges help in creating space and achieving atmosphere.  This is a very special demonstration for it helps to eliminate muddy colors.

1:00 PM - 4:00PM:  On-location painting with help at the easel by Albert.

4:00PM - 5:00 PM:  A critique of the days work.

TUESDAY

9:00AM  - 12:30PM: On-location painting with a pastel demonstration by Albert. Bring a bag lunch and a folding chair.

1:00PM - 5:00PM:  On-location painting with help at the easel, followed by a critique of the day's work.

WEDNESDAY

9:30 AM - 12:00 PM:  In the studio:  Mixed-media pastel demonstration from beginning to finish. Albert will paint a transparent watercolor under-painting, then complete the work with pastel.  This is an exceptionally exciting technique.

1:00PM - 5:00PM:  On-location painting with help at the easel.

6:30PM:  Workshop dinner (individual checks).  Casual dress.
