My interest in painting started in 1996, when I took a watercolor class at Art Center of the Ozarks. By the second painting, I knew art was going to be my destiny. I consider my style to be “realistic with a flair” using primarily watercolors and pastels as my medium. In addition, I also paint dramatic flowers on canvas using acrylic and oil in a larger-than-life scale (up to 48” X 76”). My subjects include all things in nature such as flowers, animals, landscapes and people.
Painting has brought an acute awareness of the joy and wonderful beauty that is all around us everyday, no matter the weather or the season. You don’t need a large landscape to appreciate the beauty in the world; you can find it in an area as small as a single flower. If after viewing my art, I get one person to take a moment to look at their surroundings a little closer than they would have otherwise, then I feel that I have been successful in achieving my artistic goals.
In June of 1998, I had a solo art show at Sager Creek Art Center in Siloam Springs, AR. The title of the show was “The Development of a New Artist.” In 1999, I had a solo exhibit and in 2002, I exhibited with another artist in a two-person show. In September 2004, I participated with two other artists in a show. Every year I have an art exhibit with my students. We had 32 students in the 2008 show. The Searcy Art Council Gallery sponsored a solo exhibit of 45 of my paintings in July and August of 2005. For 3 years, I was one of eight artists from across the state to be invited to show my artwork in the Arkansas State Flower and Garden show in Little Rock . In 2006, eight students and I toured and painted in France. We had an exhibit of our paintings while there. A group of 12 went to Italy in September 2008. We are going to Ireland in 2010.
My originals and prints are included in private collections in many states, as well as 7 foreign countries (Australia, Canada, England, Israel, Italy, Scotland and Switzerland.) My art has been published by two gift companies and distributed nationwide as part of their product line. In addition, a book company has published four inspirational books using my paintings as the cover & text art. I have won over 50 awards in local, regional & national competitive art exhibitions. My painting, “Dancing Light,” won an Honorable Mention in Floral & Still Life category in the Pastel 100 competition. It is in the “Pastel Journal” in April 2009 edition. Three of my paintings have been selected to be included in the book “The Best of American Pastel Volume II” (Kennedy Publishing) Oct 2009.
I have painted over 630 paintings since 1996. I teach weekly painting classes and workshops at my studio in Gravette, AR. In addition, my husband & I do custom framing (Edgmon Art & Framing). My son, John, his wife, Karen and our granddaughter, Haley (who at 5 years calls herself an artist) and our grandson, Jacob lives in Bella Vista, AR.
I am a signature member of Artists of Northwest Arkansas and the Ozark Pastel Society. My paintings can be viewed and purchased on www.susanedgmon.com. I have (Signed and numbered) Giclee’ prints available on several of my paintings. You can contact me to see these plus additional paintings at my home & studio in Gravette.
I designed the Edgmon Field easel-box (patent pending). We manufacture them at our shop in beautiful northwest Arkansas.
Thank you for showing an interest in my art.
